Don't forget about paint?

Hey PreK and Kinder teachers, paint on your computer is a great place to start and teach a child about the computer and the mouse.
Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, and Paint.
The student uses the mouse to click shapes, colors, and/or lines. There is even a cute eraser for them to use to correct their picture.
The more they use the mouse and the computer the more comfortable they will be.
This can be one of your centers or learning stations. Don't let your computer be a dust collector; let it be a kid collector...

How to use United Streaming in my classroom.

Many of you have used United Streaming in the past. This may be a refresher for you.
If you are new to the district or new to teaching, you will love this technology instruction tool. Log onto http://streaming.discoveryeducation.com/
Your user name and password will be personalized for you. (I have a list in my office.)
You can type in the grade level and subject or topic and United Streaming will give you a list of video clips both cartoon and live action depending on what you are looking for.
Our students are not just wanting to see pictures of people or animals anymore; they are way too advanced.
Remember, use United Streaming to enhance your teaching; not replace it.

Teacher's want a Blog? Here's how.

Teacher's use a blog to communicate with parents and students. It's easy; here's how:
Just copy and paste the http://www.blogger.com and create an account.
Go to the "Blogger Help" tab and read.
You can have daily homework assignments, what's happening in the classroom, and of course my favorite; "what am I reading?"
Make sure that you save as you go. If you move from one tab to another, you will loose anything not saved.
If you need help, just come by and see me. I will do my best.

What am I reading?

I am currently reading "Thirteen Reason's Why" by Jay Asher.
This is a novel about a teenage girl that commits suicide and sends out thirteen cassette tapes to the people in her life that she is giving blame to.

My favorite reads for the summer were "Bud, Not Buddy" by Christopher Paul Curtis and
"The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" by Kate DiCamillo.

Personal Profile

Hello everyone,
My name is Jackie McNabb. I am the new librarian at Lamar Elem. I have been a classroom teacher for 14 years. I went back to school in Sum/07 to start on my Masters and certification in Library Science. The plan is to be finished next summer.
I am married to Charlie and we celebrated our 16th year this August. We have two kids, Matthew is 12 and Erin is 6. They are so much fun!! We also have a Havanese (dog) named Max. He will be 2 this October. He is still wild and running around the house. Thank goodness he is past the "chewing-up everything in site" stage.
